Sophia Popov
In August 2020, Popov's tenacity paid off in spectacular fashion at the AIG Women's Open at Royal Troon. Entering the tournament ranked 304th in the world and having only secured a spot through her performance on the Symetra Tour, Popov defied the odds.
Following her Major Championship win, Popov's career took a new direction as she decided to take a break from professional golf to focus on her personal life. In 2022, she joyfully announced the birth of her first child, embracing motherhood with the same dedication and passion she had shown on the golf course. This hiatus allowed her to step back, reflect, and enjoy the profound experience of raising her child.
Popov's story is one of remarkable perseverance, illustrating that success is often a winding path filled with unexpected turns. Her ability to achieve one of golf's highest honors, embrace motherhood, and return to the sport she loves serves as an inspiration to many. Popov continues to be a presence on the golf course, a loving mother, and a symbol of resilience and determination in the world of sports.
